Time management learned from Cooking

My full-time working as a Software Engineer, I’ve spent almost my time on writing software, meeting, analyze business requirements, debugging and fixing bugs. It used to be extremely busy and It cost my whole day diving into it. There used to be a time that I only had sleeping, eating out and, yes, working. It seems like you’re just spent your time for YOURSELF.

Let’s see what else a man need to care about excluding these things above. In your home, they would be very common and specific stuffs like cleaning the floor, washing clothes, washing dishes, spending time talking to family, watching TV or movie together, etc.. and so on.

On the Social relationship, your girlfriend would be on the topmost that you need to think about, your feature mother of your kids, your best friend will spend the rest of your life together, your supporter whatever you do. Have you treated her well? Yes, she deserves a best behave and care of from you, her best friend, her husband, her boyfriend, her man.

On the colleague relationship, your coworker, the guys that you spend 8 hours a day with, also a human, with emotions, life. Those are your mentees, your team’s members those are junior with need to be guided, needs to be trained, need to learn from you. Have you ever think about that.

If you have done NONE of above, your “SELF” is so big either your time management is so bad.

I’ve learned about it a hard way myself, just from the last couple years. And I think that always be a way for time sharing. This time I show you the case for solving eating out.

Eating our itself is a good option for going out outside with your related people, but going for it alone is a bad practice. It steals more time from you that you imagine. Thinking about the place to go, thinking about which set to have and also time for getting there, ALONE. So then I decided to cook by myself. I’ve been cooking since long time ago, but I never realized that much meaning I can learn from it. I spent 1hours for preparing receipt, preparing meat, veggies, boiling rice, having meal, then washing all the dishes. And, it was a meal enough for 2 people, I think preparing for up to 5 people will cost me the same time. I also have enough of time while waiting for the cook doing its job to talk to my friend, family (5-10 minutes), planning for my next schedules, and relax with a short movie clip. Everything was going to so well, and till the night, I still have haft of that meal (I separated to 2 meal since I cannot finish), so till the night, I only needed to spend 5 minutes for preparing some veggies and 5 minutes for washing the dishes. It’s more comfortable then just go outside for a meal. I used to think that self-cooking is a bad option when you cook for only myself, I’ve never thought that way anymore, actually I felt satisfied and relax doing it. It’s balancing my personal life enough to get back the full energy for work.

That’s one of my personal lesson for improving life’s balancing and time management. I wouldn’t recommend you do the same way but I suggest you find out your own way to balance it. Hope that you enjoy your life, stay healthy and happy! 🙂
